"Prashant was excited about celebrating his birthday with his friends in Agra and was pressuring us to return home at the earliest. We are now returning with my dead son and will perform his funeral on his birthday," he rued. "These things happen in villages, I didn't know the capital will show us this day."
Raju, a cousin, said he had insisted that Prashant stay back on Saturday, something he would regret for the rest of his life. "I wish I had let them go. I feel guilty that the poor child died due to somebody's negligence."
The rains have already claimed another life too. Ram Charan, 38, died in Deepali Chowk in west Delhi on Friday after coming in contact with a live wire hanging from a pole. The incident took place around 6.30pm amid heavy pre-monsoon showers.
Ram Charan was returning home when his head came in contact with the hanging wire. Locals rushed him to Sanjay Gandhi hospital after he collapsed but it was too late.
